When do we use reported speech?

When someone says a sentence and later we wamt to tell someone else what the first person said.

Julia: "I am playing tennis." I report later: Julia said that she was playing tennis.

DIRECT SPEECH and INDIRECT SPEECH

  • Direct speech: "I am playing tennis."
  • Indirect speech: Julia said that she was playing tennis
  • Direct speech: "I like chocolate."
  • Indirect speech: He said that he liked chocolate.
