Making suggestions

Making a suggestion means recommending something from our point of view or giving an opinion about something that we think can work for someone

Should

Could

Let's

This is one of the most common ways to do it.

This word can be used to express one or more options.

It is the "let us" contraction and is used to express what you want to do with a person.

  • We should buy a car
  • They should travel to Italy next week
  • You could learn English or French to get that job
  • We could live in Germany.
  • Let's go to the concert
  • Let's work out every day

What about? How about?

Shall

When you use these expressions, it means that you are asking someone if they agree or disagree.

This expression is more formal and is used only with the pronouns I and we.

  • Shall we create a company?
  • Shall I apologize to my boss?
  • What about having a party tonight?
  • How about going to the spa after school?

I suggest I recommend

Why don't?

It is similar to how about and what about, but here the question is negative.

It is used to make direct recommendations or suggestions.

  • Why don't we sell makeup?
  • Why doesn't she study at the university?
  • They suggest doing that homework today
  • We recommend you to practice the dance a few more days
