Creating an online community for learners

What is a CoI?

A community of inquiry is an intentional design approach to create learning experiences that are interactive, collaborative and transformative (Vaughan, Cleveland-Innes and Garrison, 2013).

Social Presence

Teaching Presence

Facilitator:

  • encourages discussion
  • provides methods of reflection
  • provides ongoing feedback

Learners are:

  • posed questions for discussion
  • invited to reflect
  • encouraged to share information

Learners:

  • create profiles

  • engage in online forums
