  • They make reference to hypothetical situations either in the past or in the present.

We use it to talk about situations in the present which affect the past

  • Examples:
  • If I weren't so untidy, I wouldn't have lost your keys.

Mixed type conditional

If + past perfect + , + would/might/could + infinitive

We use it to talk about situations in the past that may have an effect upon or be related to a present situation

  • Examples:
