EXAMPLES

To show possession, add an apostrophe (‘) and -s to a singular noun: Sara's book is on the table.

(a) Fernando's car is brand new. (b) My baby's room is so beautiful. (c) The teacher's desk is always tidy. (d) Juanes' dog barks at night. (e) I have visited St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. (f) Pereira's weather pleasant.

If a singular noun ends in -s, there are two possible forms: 1. Add an apostrophe and -s: Carlos’s book is on the couch. 2. Add only an apostrophe: Carlos’ book is on the couch.

Add only an apostrophe to a plural noun that ends in -s: The girls’ books are on the table. Add an apostrophe and -s to plural nouns that does not end in -s: The men’s books are on the table.
