Description
It is becoming more and more apparent that the challenges of the modern world cannot be faced by countries working alone. International cooperation is required to tackle issues such as poverty, climate change and poor governance. This chapter encourages you to think about your role in making the world a better place.
- In Ending Poverty, you will explore ways in which poverty can be eradicated
- In Climate Change, you will learn about the causes and effects of climate change, thinking of ways in which you can help alleviate it.
- In Power to the People, you will be inspired by the stories of individuals who have fought for their rights.
What do we mean with sharing the planet?
sharing
planet
• do we view 'the planet' principally as an ecosystem? or...• as a social system? or...• as an economic system? or...• as a political system? or...• all of these, mixed up? - in which case, how do all of the elements interact?
• implies 'cooperating', as in 'sharing things out fairly'? or...• 'competing', as in 'fighting for scarce resources'?• is 'sharing' essentially morally driven - or is it practically driven?• do human beings like sharing? Evidence, for and against?
