The AES coursework portfolio takes you through the essential stages of researching, planning, presenting and writing an academic essay. These are the same stages you will follow in ALL your academic work. Why is this covered in AES and not Subject modules? AES stands for Academic English Skills – it does not just focus on language, but also on key academic skills which you need to be successful at University. Subject modules do include some work on academic skills, but the main focus is content, with assessments focussing on testing your subject knowledge and understanding. If you cannot express and present your knowledge, you cannot achieve good marks
