Florida COVID Policies & Procedures
As we approach the school year, schools nationwide are gearing up to handle the increasing cases of the Coronavirus.
Oviedo: A new way of life
Change around us: Preparation plans of other counties
State: How the governor is handling the virus
Colleges: Their take
Nation: COVID around the country
2. City Limits
The changes Oviedo has implemented...--> Services provided by the City of Oviedo, such as City Hall, Public Works and Fire Administration access are only allowed through appointment. --> Seminole County has issued a mask mandate to prevent rapid spread of the virus. This includes establishments in Oviedo. --> Utility and water bill deadlines have been extended to meet the financial needs of Oviedo citizens. --> Positive Cases: 4756Deaths: 35 Sources: City of Oviedo, Seminole County COVID Dashboard
Mayor Megan Sladek, along with the Governor and Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners declared a state of emergency on March 11, 2020.
A plan in place
Make it Count--> Orange County Orange County is asking for more flexibility from the state on how tohandle reopening. They have provided three options: a combination of virtual and face-to-face learning, LaunchEd (completely virtual school schedule, and traditional school, following safety protocols. --> Volusia County Plans for students returning August 24. Have created an exclusively virtual option deemed "Volusia Live." --> Osceola County County will issue rewearable face masks to all students. Worked with the Nemours Children Hospital to create plan

Along with Seminole County, other counties are forming plans and guidelines for their schools.
5. The Governor's Response
--> Florida has increased testing, which the DeSantis cites as the reason for the uptick in recent cases. --> The Florida government is pushing to move forward and continue reopening businesses and returning to life before quarantine. --> Florida has issued an executive order, forcing schools to reopen in August --> Despite calls for a statewide mask mandate, the governor has left that decision up to the counties. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a big advocate for students returning to school in Florida. Here are some ways the Florida government has reacted to the coronavirus.
3. Colleges
COVID & Florida Colleges --> Seminole State College will have a completely virtual Fall semester --> UCF plans on reopening in the fall, allowing both remote and face-to-face curriculum and classes, with the requirement of masks in physical classrooms --> UF plans on reopening and will screen students and staff prior to return. They are currently suspending all student events. --> FSU plans on reopening in the fall and hopes to host student events virtually. All buildings on campus will be thoroughly sanitized everyday. Coronavirus has caused many complications for a variety of people, including college students. Some are worried about the cost of tuition and missing out on college events, while some believe spikes in cases should shut down the colleges for another semester.
4. United States & Coronavirus
Plaguing the nation--> President Trump is adamant on sending students back to school, despite numerous calls not to --> States are facing issues over whether or not to implement and enforce a mask policy. The governor of Georgia is suing the Atlanta mayor over trying to mandate mask wearing for the public. --> The White House has refused to allow a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention witness to testify on the hearing on whether or not schools should reopen. Sources: The Washington Post, CNN, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The United States has been critized for its handling of the coronavirus. It is constantly setting global records for deaths and number of cases, whereas the rest of the world is making a slow return to normal, with fewer cases each day.
