FRANKENSTEIN TIMELINE
CHAPTER 1:
Before Victor's birth, Alphonse (her father) quit his public life to become a father and husband.
Beaufort moved to naples, siwtzerland. he lived with his daughter, and had saved money mantain both of them and get cured.
mr. beaufort dies because of illness, caroline stays in naples.
alphonse and caroline get married
they moved to italy and elizabeth lavenza, who they adopted, and later became victor's cousin and also fiancé
CHAPTER 2:
when victor was 7 years old, his brother is born.
their parents decided to stay in ginebra to get stay focus on the family.
victor introduces his friend, henry clerval, he studies literature and folklore.
at 13 years old he became interested in cornelius agrippa's (an alchemist) work, which made him have a thirst of knowledge.
at 15 years olds victor witnessed an electrical storm and alightning that had hit a tree. he becomes interested in electricity and possible application for its use.
chapter 3:
when he was 17 years old, his parents decided that he should become a student in ingolstadt university. caroline got a fever and later died. she told elizabeth to take care of victor's little brothers and father.
mr. krempe told victor that it was a waist of time studying alchemist. victor then attends to waldman's chemistry class, which convinces victor to study science.
chapter 4:
Victor hadn't visited his family in geneva. he avoided his family and friends. his main occupation was to study philosophy. he began to study about the human body, and discovered the secret of life.
chapter 5:
victor completes his creation, but when he brings it to life, he feels disgusted and horrified. Victor falls ill with fever that lasts several months. Later, he recovers and gives him a letter from elizabeth that had arrived during his illness.
chapter 6:
Elizabeth's letter expresses her concern about victor's illness and entreats him to write to his family in geneva. Also tells him that justine moritz, had returned to their house. Victor decides to go back to geneva, waits a letter from his father specifying the date of his departure.
CHAPTER 7:
Victor finds a letter from his father telling him that william has been killed and murdered. they found the locket elizabeth gave to victor in justine's clothes, so she is accused for being guilty.
CHAPTER 8:
Vcitor witnesses justine's trial. He knows she is innocent but cannot admit it since it would include him revealing his creation. Elizabeth gives a defense of justine during the trial, they found out that justine has given a false confession.
CHAPTER 9:
Victor becomes melancholic and he considers suicide but restrains himself by thinking of his father and elizabeth. Alphonse takes his children on a trip to belrive.
CHAPTER 10:
Victor decides to travel to the summit of Montavert, hoping to be relieved by the view. When he reaches the glacier, he spots a creature walking towards him. He threatens the monster by attacking him.
CHAPTER 11:
The monster finds a cottage which lead to a village in which he is attacked by everyone, and is later able to escape by taking refuge in a hotel which is habited by a family (a married couple with their son and daughter).
CHAPTER 12:
He realizes that they are poor, and that they didn’t have much wood to keep them warm. He stopped and gave them all the wood he could for them to be safe. He also becomes aware that they communicate through sounds and is determined to learn their language.
CHAPTER 13:
A woman, Safie arrives at the cottage. Safie does not speak the family's language, and Felix teaches her from a history book. As she learns, so does the monster. He learns that they all have a society and he doesn’t since he is only a monster, and realizes he is always going to be lonely.
CHAPTER 14:
Felix visited the Turk in prison and met his daughter, Safie. He successfully coordinates her father's escape from prison, but when the plot was discovered, De Lacey and Agatha are sent to prison as well as Felix, for five months. A trial took place, and as a consequence leaving them poor. When Safie’s father heard from this he wanted to betray them, since he only wanted Safie to marry Felix due to their wealth and him being christian.
CHAPTER 15:
the monster finds an abandoned satchel containing some papers from Victor's journal. Frankenstein went to the cottage when De Lacey was left alone. He is found talking with the old man about his feelings of kindness toward the family so De Lacey offers to help him. He asks the monster who were the friends. Agatha fainted while Safie ran out of the cottage, Felix tore his father away from him and dashed him to the ground and struck him violently with a stick. He was able to escape the cottage.
CHAPTER 16:
The monster swears to revenge himself against human beings, his creator in particular. Journeying for months, he makes his way toward Geneva. He spots a young girl alone, the girl slips into a stream and appears to be on the verge of drowning. When the monster rescues the girl from the water, the man accompanying her, suspecting him of having attacked her, shoots him. As he nears Geneva, the monster runs across William in the woods. When William mentions that his father is Alphonse Frankenstein, the monster erupts and strangles the boy to death. He takes a picture of Caroline that the boy has been holding and places it in the folds of the dress of Justine.
CHAPTER 17:
The monster confronts Victor with an all or nothing proposition; "make me a mate or I will destroy you". He convinces Victor to re-create the process used on the monster, and with Victor seeing the monster's point of view, he agrees to create a mate for the monster.
CHAPTER 18:
He starts to doubt if what he agreed to is correct, and cancels the creation of a mate for the monster, and realizes that if he will do it it will require him going back to England for some research. Alphonse suggests that they celebrate the marriage immediately, but Victor refuses, until he has completed his obligation to the monster, and asks Alphonse if he can first travel to England. Victor and Alphonse arrange a two-year tour, on which Henry Clerval, eager to begin his studies after several years of unpleasant work for his father in Geneva, will accompany Victor.
CHAPTER 19:
Victor and Henry journey through England and Scotland, but Victor is impatient. Leaves Henry in a Scottish town while he isolates himself in Orkneys to complete this new creation. Quickly setting up a laboratory, Victor devotes many hours to working on his new creature, which leaves him with trouble continuing his work, since he knows how horrifying the result will be.
CHAPTER 20:
The monster becomes mad and swears he will be present at Victor’s wedding. Victor receives a letter from Henry, suggesting that they continue their travels. He cleans and packs his instruments and collects the remains of his second creature so he can later throw them into the water. He reaches shore near a town. But when he lands, a group of townspeople greet him, telling him that he is under suspicion for a murder discovered the previous night.
CHAPTER 21:
After confronting Victor, the people took him to Mr. Kirwin. Victor hears witnesses testify against him, since the night before they saw a single figure on a boat, just like him. They showed Victor the body and it was his best friend, Henry Clervard. Victor is ill for two months. He was in recovery while in prison. Mr. Kirwin visits him. Told him he had a visitor. Victor feared it was the monster. His father came to this town after hearing what happened to him and Henry.
CHAPTER 22:
Elizabeth sends a letter to Victor asking if their feelings were mutual, and if he was with someone else, this was because Victor had been unhappy and distant (but it was because of the monster). Elizabeth and Victor get married. Both leave on their honeymoon.
CHAPTER 23:
Victor, being worried that the monster will kill him, goes and sees if the monster was near them. He heard Elizabeth scream, the monster killed her. Victor shoots at the monster but doesn’t end up being hurt. Victor returns home and tells his father what had happened. His father dies a few days later. Victor tries to convince that there is a monster that killed most of his family and loved ones but they don’t believe him. Victor is determined to find the monster for the rest of his life and then kill him.
CHAPTER 24:
Victor leaves Geneva, in search of the monster (and also to kill him). Victor chases the monster to the Mediteranean sea. Weather gets worse as he travels to the north. He was near the monster when the ice in which they were started to break, separating them. Victor is found by Walton’s ship. Tells him about his life. Asks him to chase the monster and kill him (since Victor was in a really bad state to do so).
