LIBRARY SPACES

Our Library is home to over 400.000 books, journals and other items:

  • Books: 382.916 (over 43.000 books on open shelves)
  • Journal titles: 3451
  • Audiovisual and Multimedia Materials (CD and DVD): 4277
  • Maps: 10.434
How do I find a book? All books in our library are assigned a call number, found on the book spine. The call number represents the subject of the book and acts like the book’s address on the library shelves. For example: H 946 FON. The first letter indicates the collection (H = History Area); the numbers indicate the subject (946 = History of Spain) and the last three letters indicate the author (FON = Fontana). In order to find the specific area where the call number item is located you can check this quick resume:
  • Reading Rooms: H, R, G, A, R, LIT
  • Depots (It is necessary to request them through the advance request of the catalogue): D, DD, DA, PRE, GH, GH-A, GH-B, P, PF, PP, TEA

COLLECTIONS

Our library has more than 3450 print journal titles (call number: PP), excluded from home loan. The numbers of the last two years of the most popular journals are at the Periodicals Room (Third Floor) and the previous ones are in the depots. We also provide access to the full text of over 36.000 journals. Most of the journals can be consulted by log in yourself with your UCM email and password. Just to consult some of them you will need to connect to a VPN. Electronic Journals How to set up a VPN

You may renew your items online through your Library Account. Also, items can be renewed with your Library card using the self-service machines or at the Library Helpdesk. All items from the general collection may be renewed up to 10 times if:

  • the item has not been requested by another user
  • the loan period has not expired
  • you are not sanctioned
If an item is on loan to another user, you can request the item through our library catalogue. You cannot place a reserve on items availables at other UCM libraries. You can have up to 10 requests on your record at one time, including requests waiting to be collected. Once the item is returned to the library, we will send you and e-mail letting you know the item is ready to collect at the Library Helpdesk. You will have three days to collect your item. Uncollected requests move on to the next person in the queue or are reshelved. You can cancel your request from your Library Account before we send you the confirmation email.
