Two rationals 1. Utilitarian aim is it provides incentives to create new materials, and 2. The law protects the author's rights for attribution and preservation of the integrity of the work.
This law provides needed monetary support for people who create intellectual property.
Copyright law only protects companies’ products—for example, Walt Disney’s fims.

Works that are in the public domain are not protected by copyright law. Works in the public domain are open for anyone to copy, adapt, and share.
Public domain works are works that are trendy and can be found all over the world.

Below are ways a work becomes part of the public domain: 1. The Copyright expires 2. The work is not entitled to copyright protection. Examples: works produced by government, facts, ideas 3. Creators dedicate their works to the public domain. Creators can accomplish this by using creative commons licensing tools for a CCO license. 4. Failed to comply with formalities needed to maintain Copyright. Today, there are no formal requirements.

More about exceptions and limitations to copyright Berne Convention, adopted in 1886, first established the concept of “fair use” through a 3-step-test. This is a roadmap or guide to be followed by countries when making limitations and exceptions in their copyright laws. Japan is a country that lists specific activities were copyright can be excluded. In the U.S., the federal court determines fair use using a four-factor test. These factors are: 1.
