SENTENCE BUILDING

Sentence building is an acivity that lets us show our command of the vocabulary and at the same time put into practice the grammatical structures that we study in class.

What does it consist of?

  • Use a structure to ask about a plan
    • to take in
    • waistcoat
    • upcoming

The instructions include two items:

  • Lexical items: the words you should choose from.
  • Structure: the grammatical structure that should be present in your example.
  • Begin with "although"
    • alfresco
    • wilderness
    • sound (as part of an idiom)
  • Use the passive form
    • danger
    • to bury
    • to estimate

You will need to use the structure provided and choose two lexical items.

Some examples:

  • Use the passive form + [danger | to bury | to estimate]

It is estimated that after the earthquake, more than 200 people have been buried under the debris of collapsed buildings, most of whom are dead or in danger of dying.

  • Use a sentential relative clause + [high-heeled | to sprain | pain]

Charlie tried walking in high-heeled shoes and sprained his ankle, which caused a lot of pain.

  • Use a conditional [to let out | fancy | oversized]

If I let out an old shirt and borrow a pair of oversized trousers,I will be able to dress as a scarecrow for the fancy dress party.
