The enigma machine was invented by Arthur Scherbius, a German engineer. It was used during the Second World War to decipher enemies' secret messages. Soon after its invention, the German navy started using it. Then, other countries became interested in the machine too. Poland hired a mathematician to crack the code of the machine. After cracking the code, they could read all the secret messages the Germans were sending to its army. Other countries got involved in the War. People from Britain, and France helped. This group helped to intercept and decrypt German communications. First, the group helped designed a bomb. Second, the group decipher a lot of messages. Third, they helped win the war.

In 1991, two climbers who were at Otztal Alps in Italy made a horrific discovery. They found a dead body. It was buried in ice and they thought it was another climber, so they called the police. Scientists discovered that the body was 5000 years old. They called the iceman "Otzi". The scientists made a lot of tests. As a result, they discovered that Otzi was a healthy person and they thought he was a shepherd. But... how did the body ended up that high in the mountain? Because of where it was found, experts therefore concluded that Otzi was murdered. The evidence for this conclusion was that he was found with his axe which was very valuable at the time. Consequently, experts think that whoever killed him wanted to keep the axe. Otzi was 44 years old and was an important person in his tribe. As a consequence of this position, he probably had many enemies.
