reproduction: vital function

EVERY LIVING THING PERFORMS A VITAL FUNCTION THAT HELPS THEM SURVIVE:1) NUTRITION 2) INTERACTION 3) REPRODUCTION REPRODUCTION IS THE PROCESS THAT CREATES A NEW MEMBER OF THE SPECIES. IF LIVING THINGS DIDN'T REPRODUCE, THEY WOULD GET EXTINCT.

types of reproduction

sexual reproduction

asexual reproduction

A NEW MEMBER IS BORN BY COMBINING A FEMALE CELL AND A MALE CELL produced by their reproductive systems.

a little one is born from one single parent and is genetically similar

THE male reproductive system

the maLE cell is called sperm. It is produced in the testicles during puberty. the sperm goes out through the urethra

THE FEmale reproductive system

the FEMALE cell is called EGG. It is produced in the OVARIES during puberty. ONCE A MONTH, THE OVARY SENDS AN EGG TO THE FALLOPIAN TUBE. IT WILL REMAIN TWO WEEKS THERE TO BE FERTILISED BY THE SPERM (MALE CELL).

FERTILIZATION

fertilization is the process in which one single male cell meets the female cell in the fallopian tube (woman's reproductive system). when fertilization happens, a zygote is formed and it develops until it becomes a foetus.

pregnancy

pregnancy is the formation of the baby inside the mother's womb. it takes place in the mother's uterus and it lasts 9 months.

the foetus floats in the amniotic fluid in the amniotic sac. the baby is linked to his mother by the umbilical cord. the baby uses the cord to remove waste and to get the oxygen and nutrients from the placenta.

LABOUR

after nine months, the baby leaves the mother's womb through the vagina. this is what is called labour. labour happens when the baby is formed and ready to live outside the uterus. when the baby is born, the doctor cuts the umbilical cord and the newborn starts living by himself.

how to take care of it

1) it is important to go to the doctor regularly when you get into puberty. 2) you must have a shower and change your underwear regularly to avoid diseases.
