Modal verbs: must, can, could, should, have to

She must be tired. - Ona musi być zmęczona. (wyrażamy pewność co do danej sytuacji)He can't be guilty. - On nie może być winny. (naszym zdaniem dana sytuacja jest niemożliwa lub nieprawdopodobna)

Examples:

It may be her dog. - To może być jej pies.She might be sleepy. - Ona może być śpiąca.They could be in the house. - Oni mogą być w domu.

must – obligation (obowiązek)mustn’t – prohibition (zakaz)should – advice (udzielanie rad)have to – obligation (konieczność)don’t have to – no obligation (brak konieczności)can - ability (umiejętność)could - ability in the past (umiejętność w przeszłości)can, could - permission (pozwolenie)

1. Udziel rady koleżance, która chce kupić sukienkę.

2. Zapytaj kolegę, czy możesz pożyczyć telefon

a.Can I have your mobile? b. Can I borrow your mobile? c. Can I use your mobile?

3. Zapytaj, gdzie powinieneś pójść.

4. Przetłumacz zdanie: Nie wolno tutaj pływać.

a. You don't have to swim here. b. You mustn't swim here. c. You can swim here, but be careful.

5. Powiedz, że potrafiłeś szybko biegać w wieku 8 lat.

a. I can run very fast. b. I couldn't run very fast when I was eight. c. I could run very fast when I was eight.

6. Jesteś pewien, że Twój sąsiad jest nauczycielem.

11. Powiedz, że nie potrafisz śpiewać.

12. Powiedz, że potrafisz bardzo dobrze rysować.
