An alcohol prep pad is a one-time use cotton-type material that is saturated in isopropyl alcohol. The swabs are individually wrapped and come in a variety of sizes. They are used to clean the site that you will be lancing.

A lancing device is used in conjunction with a lancet to obtain a blood sample for glucose testing. It uses a spring to quickly release the lancet a controlled distance into your skin and is reusable. Most lancing devices involve a few easy steps.
1. Insert the lancet into the lancing pen per the instructions 2. Lance your finger
3. Perform glucose test
4. Remove the lancet from your lancing device and dispose of it properly
