EXAMPLE II

EXAMPLE I

When we use the Conditional, we establish that: if something happens, a consequence will take place

But not all the consequences have the same probability to happen...

Depending on the probability we use different Conditional

-If you touch the fire, you get burnt -If you study, you will pass the test. -If I lived in a castle, I would be very happy.

It happens the same in Spanish (Click here)

ZERO CONDITIONAL

YOU HAVE STUDIED THIS STRUCTURE LAST YEAR, BOTH VERBS ARE IN THE PRESENT TENSE...

"IF YOU TOUCH THE FIRE, YOU GET BURNT"

... AND IT ALWAYS HAPPENS

FIRST CONDITIONAL

THIS IS THE ONE WE HAVE STUDiED IN PREVIOUS WEEKS, WE USE THE PRESENT TENSE AND THE FUTURE SiMPLE...

"IF YOU STUDY, YOU WILL PASS THE TEST"

IT USUALLY HAPPENS, BUT NOT ALWAYS

SECOND CONDITIONAL

THIS IS THE STRUCTURE WE ARE GOING TO LEARN THIS WEEK...

"IF I LIVED IN A CASTLE, I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY"

... MAYBE, BUT WE ARE NOT SURE

SECOND CONDITIONAL

We have to use the following structure:

-In the part where we have the particle IF, we have to use past simple. -In the other part we have to put the word WOULD before the verb

PAST SIMPLE

To create the past simple:

REGULAR VERBS We add -ED at the end of the verb play played

IRREGULAR VERBS It is the second column of the irregular verb list go went

WOULD

We write it before the verb in infinitive to create a condition

I would go if...

I would have if...

I would play if...

I would do if...

EXAMPLES I

The structure can be like this...

If he bought a bike, we would go to the park together.

If I knew her number, I would call her

If you lived in Paris, I would visit you

EXAMPLES II

... or the other way round

We would go to the park together if he bought a bike

I would call her if I knew her number

I would visit you if you lived in Paris
