What were the Jim Crow Laws ?

Between 1876 and 1965, many American states enforced segregation laws (called the Jim Crow Laws)

Black and white people were separated in all public places with a "separate but equal status". But in reality, whites and blacks were not treated equally.

Black people had to use separate water fountains. = It was forbidden for black people to use the same water fountains as white people.
