Substitution
Tech tools at this level serve the same purpose as their analog counterparts without changing the nature of teaching or learning.
Augmentation
Augmentation tools may ask students to understand or apply their knowledge, lower-order verbs on Bloom’s taxonomy, while providing teachers with evidence of student learning and a clear focus if they need to pivot their instruction in real time.
Modification
Tools that modify classroom tasks encourage students to demonstrate understanding and create new ways of solving old problems.
Redefinition
Flipping the classroom is a redefinition of traditional instruction made possible by technologies like Educreations where carefully curated learning prepares students to actively apply learning.
SAMR
What is SAMR?
A method of seeing how computer technology might impact teaching and learning. It's a model of tech integrationuseful that can be used as a useful tool for helping teachers think about their own tech use as they begin to make small shifts in the design and implementation of technology driven learning experiences to achieve the next level.
It's like...
LEARNING HOW TORIDE ABIKE
S
Substitution
Substition is the first stage of SAMR. It's like beginning riding a bike with a tricycle or training wheels!Children need time to become framiliar with the activity as they ease into it. In order to learn and become better, children can substitute technology to begin learning!
A
Augmentation
Augmentation is the second stage of SAMR.Once students feel comfortable with the training wheels, they can progress by removing the training wheels and becoming more independent, but still with some help or supervision.
M
Modification
Modification is the third stage of SAMR.Here, students can ride their bike without a 'supervisor' right next to them to keep their balance. This means a child has little scaffolding or restriction in the task,
r
redefinition
Redefinition is the final stage of SAMR.This can be seen as like going for a long bike ride on a two wheel bike. The child has become framiliar and confident with learning to ride and can now go on an entire ride without any help.
