About the TC Virtual Community Project
Learning the Song
This project, a collaboration between The Teachers College Community Choir and The Vice President’s Office of Diversity and Community Affairs, was designed with the goal of bringing members of the TC Community together in song during this time when we cannot be together in person. We are going to sing the song Make The Silence Loud With Love, written for this project by Natalie Fabian. Each singer will submit a videorecording of themselves singing, and we will assemble the recordings to make a virtual choir video. The video will be streamed during the TC Community Choir concert on Tuesday, May 12th at 7pm and may by used by Teachers College in multiple forums after that.

Everybody at Teachers College is invited to participate. Just like the TC Community Choir, the TC Virtual Community Choir has no auditions. Singers may learn the song by listening to the practice recordings provided, and they may refer to a lyric sheet which has the words. Sheet music is also provided for those who choose to use it, but participants are not required to read music. Recordings must be submitted by Thursday, May 7th in order to be included in the project.

Learning the Song
Now it’s time for you to learn the song Make the Silence Loud with Love. First, choose which part you would like to sing. There is a part for treble voices (sopranos and altos) and one for lower voices (tenors, baritones and basses). Next, learn the song. You can learn by listening to the recordings, following along with the lyric sheet, and/or following the sheet music if that's how you like to learn.

- Download the conductor video to your computer if you can. It will play more smoothly from your hard drive than it would if you streamed it.

How to Record
Set up your recording device
Send it in
- Use one device to watch the conductor video (e.g. laptop) and another device to record yourself (e.g. phone).
- Set up your camera horizontally (landscape, not portrait) and at eye level with good lighting on your face.
- Plug your headphones into the device you are using to watch the conductor video.
- Title the your recording file with your name and "VirtualChoir" (E.g. Nicole_VirtualChoir).
- Upload your recording on the Upload page.
