Matter

What do you know about the matter?

There are two general properties of matter

Mass: amount of matter

It can be measured in grams and Kilograms

Which objects have more mass?

Volume: amount of space

Which objects have more volume?

It can be measured in liters of cubic centimetres

There are two general properties of matter

Mass: amount of matter

The mass of this object is heavy but its volume is small

Volume: amount of space

The mass of these balloons is light but their volume is large

There are specific properties of matter

Are qualities that differentiate typs of matter

Example: density

metal balls have high density

(high mass and low volume)

Density is the relationship between the mass and the volume of an object

the balloons have low density

density= Mass / Volume

(low mass and high volume)

other examples are: elasticy, hardness

How are these objects different? How can they be classified?

What substances are pure?

Only one compound

What substances are mixture?

Matter is made up of two or more substances

What substances are homogeneus mixture?

we cannot see the different ingredients

Heterogeneus mixture:we can see the differents compounds

What substances are solid, liquid and gas?
