Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Brendan. He lived with monks in a monastery in Iona. Iona was threatened by the Vikings. Brendan's tutor built walls but other monks wrote an illuminated book to protect their culture.

Once upon a time, there was a British man. At 16, he was captured by pirates and sold as a slave in Ireland. After 6 years, he fled back to England and became a priest. He went back to Ireland where he chased the snakes and converted its inhabitants to Catholicism.

Why are these doors so colourful ? Ireland was colonized by England. When Queen Victoria, nicknamed the “famine queen" in Ireland, died. The Irish were told to paint their doors black in mourning. In rebellion, they painted them in bright colours.
