WOW!!!

PRESENTing the...

immune system!

let´s explore it together!

Remember we said the world is filled with microorganisms?

PATHOGENS

When they are outside there is no problem, but what if they find the way inside our body?

Our body has different ways to protect ourselves from pathogens:Non-specific immunity Adaptive response

Non-specific immunity includes the skin, mucous membranes like nose, mouth and even our eyes!

10

What are the names of the blood cells?

Where are the blood cells produced? In which part of our body?

When the pathogens enter the body, their goal is too reach to the cell and reproduce, producing many other pathogens.

YEAH!!!

here is where our

superhero comes!

ADAPTIVE RESPONSE!!!

So the real hero of the immune system are the white blood cells or better known as leukocytes!

17

Leucocytes travel around the body in the blood, their main function is to act like security guards constantly scanning the tissues, organs and systems for unusual signs and presence of invaders.

How our body knows that there are pathogens inside our body?

The leukocytes use this protein to create antibodieswhich recognize the cells from the body from invaders.

The antibody identifies the antigen and sticks to it.

Antigen

When pathogens get inside our bodies, they present a different protein that is codified by the leukocyte which creates antibodies for this specific pathogen.

the antibody marks the pathogen and shows the cells where to attack.

Antibodies

finally... the white blood cells

After creating the antibody, the leukocyte will clone itself and produce two types of cells:- effector cells - memory cells

22

Now, the memory cells are important because they store the information of these virus, so when our body is attacked again by the same pathogen, their response will be faster.
