Let me start by saying that it´s no secret that sooner or later everyone needs to find a job. People are born, grow up, get educated, and then inevitably look for employment. It´s almost impossible for human beings to avoid having to work. People can be out of work from time to time, of course, but this condition either lasts a short time or brings insecurity and desperation to the person involved. Actually, the question, "What do you do for a living?" is so common , that it usually comes up in the first two minutes of conversation.

When we ask this question, we usually expect an answer within the range of the most typical job possibilities, like babysitter, sales assistant, swimming instructor, doctor or vet. If we know people quite well, we are usually able to imagine more or less what jobs they would like to dedicate their time to. This means that most people have quite common careers. Others, however, have occupations that are so unusual that it is difficult to believe that they exist at all.

The next strange employment can seem really attractive to kids. I am talking about being a "gumologist." As you might guess, the word gumologist comes from gum. This job consists of finding a perfect chewing gum recipe. A gumologist is responsible for tasting gum, evaluating its flavor, and trying to make bubbles with it!

Take, for instance, the job of the pet food tester. According to statistics, 75% of people in the US consider this job the strangest one. So can you guess how pet food testers earn their salary? Well, although it sounds pretty weird, they actually eat pet food. An owner of a pet food company, Mark Gooley, says, "Don´t ever expect your dog to eat anything that a human being won´t." Mark takes his business so seriously that he doesn´t hire a food tester, but rather is in charge of this important task himself.

The third place in the weird jobs contest belongs to an occupation that would certainly interest teenagers. How would you feel about sliding down a waterslide in hot summer weather? What about being paid for it? Well, although being a waterslide tester is obviously a strange occupation, it´s a full time job. People can only apply for it if they are adults in perfect physical condition and like to remain active.

The fourth place on our list is given to the snake milker. This job sounds shocking, doesn´t it? Only adults are allowed to sign up for this dangerous work, of course. It´s common knowledge that snake venom is widely used in the drug industry. Have you ever stopped to wonder, however, how people manage to collect this deadly substance? Well, they have to hold the snake´s head very firmly and slightly squeeze its fangs for it to produce the venom. It´s terrifying, isn´t it?

Before you let your imagination fly, let me tell you that people who dedicate their lives to this undoubtedly unusual occupation say that it´s not just fun and games, although it literally sounds like it. As one professional gamer said, "The video game tester´s job is to criticize the game and be willing to find any drawbacks it has. It´s this part that sometimes makes playing boring. Besides, you have many meetings to attend before you can actually try the game... "Doesn´t this description sound disappointing?

Interestingly enough, the list of weird jobs is quickly changing. Several years ago, for instance, the job of a dog walker was considered extremely unusual. Now however, it is as common as being a lawyer or earning your wages as a fast-food delivery person.

So maybe the key to being happy with your employment is neither having a weird job nor doing the job of everyone´s dreams. The key is to be passionate about what you are doing. So, whether you´re a doctor, an accountant, or an astronaut, be happy and make others happy with the product of our work.!
