LIGHT

Light is a form of energy that iluminates objects around us.

LIGHT AND COLOURS

The light of the Sun seems to be white, but it is really made up of seven different colours. We can see these separate colours when white light passes through a prism.Light travels in a straight line until hits an object. When that happens, the object can absorb some colours and reflect others. The reflected colours are the ones that we see.

REFLECTIONS AND MIRRORS

When light hits a smooth surface ,such as glass, all the raysof ight reflect in one direction.Mirrors are extremely smooth and shiny, so they reflectvery clear images of any objects in front of them.

In contrast, when light hits a rough suface, such as wood or concrete, the rays reflect in many different directions. As a result, the light does not reflect clear images.

REFRACTION AND LENSES

Refraction happens when light changes direction as it passes from one medium (or material) into another.

The image of the spoon appears to bend or be broken. This is because air and water are materials with different densities.

A lens is a curvered piece of glass or transparent plastic that refracts light and can make objects look bigger or smaller.

REFRACTION

Convex and concave lenses

A lens is a curved piece of glass or transparent plastic taht refracts light and can make objects look bigger or smaller. There are two main types of lenses.

CONVEX

CONCAVE

Convex lenses (positive lenses) bend the light inwards.

Concave lenses (negative lenses) spread the light outwards.Projectors use concave lenses.

SOLAR PANELS

Solar panels use sunlight to generate power. The sunlight is absorbed by photovoltaic cells, which convert it into electricity. Large solar panels can provide enough electricity for homes, schools and other buildings.
