The Huge Snowman
Have you ever been to a snowy place? If you have, did you like it? If you haven’t, would you like to go? Why?
Hello!!! I am a snowman...
Who found the snowman? Why was the snowman afraid of the coming spring? What will happen to him?
Vocabulary Practice
What did the snowman realize? What did the animals offer to do for him? How did the snowman feel at the end of the story?
“I was around in the trees when I saw a huge snowman,” said the robin. “He was big! I rushed to tell my friends about my discovery. When my friends and I got to the place where I had seen the snowman, we were surprised to see that he was alive! He could even talk! At first, we were very happy to find a new friend. But after he spoke to us, we began to feel sad for him.” “Is this spring?” he said.

“No, why do you ask?” said the robin. “Because the weather will get warm when the sun starts to shine, and I don’t want to melt!” he said. All the animals grew silent. The snowman continued talking. “It would be horrible to turn into a puddle of water, and what would happen to my blue scarf and hat and to my black eyes if I turn into a puddle of water?” “Snow has to melt so that all of the plants can grow,” said the gray squirrel. And the polar bear added, “No one can go against the ways of nature. That is just how things are.”

The snowman realized that he was being selfish, and he said, “You’re right! I’m part of nature, and I should not feel like this!” “I have an idea,” said the robin. “Listen to this! I can take care of your scarf.” “Your hat will be waiting for you also,” said the sparrows. “We will be happy to take care of it for you.” “I’ll take care of your eyes,” said the black squirrel. “I know just the perfect place to keep them safe.” The snowman thanked al the animals, feeling happy to have such good friends.
