A cOOKING SCHOOL FOR KIDS!

It’s lunchtime and you’re hungry. You feel like eating something broiled and spicy. You want to eat out or order takeout. You can’t go to the drive-through because you don’t have a car. You wish you had a fast-food restaurant in your kitchen, a food court in your front yard, a self-service snack bar, or a fully stocked lunchroom. When you feel the need to feed yourself, do you know how to cook? If you don’t, there’s a place where you can learn how to write your own recipes and prepare your favorite meals.

The Young Chefs Academy is a children’s cooking school with some locations in the United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, New Delhi, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Zimbabwe. The Academy’s mission is to teach children the joy of cooking and provide a life-long learning experience. The Academy has several programs that help ignite the student’s creativity and satisfy their natural curiosity in a good environment and kid-friendly kitchens. The Young Chefs Academy offers a wide variety of classes where future chefs learn kitchen and cooking skills; they also learn about math, science, history, and develop a lot of important cognitive skills.

Other classes offered are Kindercooks, where children of ages three to five years old learn about recipes, culinary skills, and basic nutrition information. Jr. Chefs is a class designed for children of ages six to 14 years old. In this class they learn the necessary skills to develop a love for cooking.

Extra perks include Birthday Parties, where the Academy provides everything from the invitations to the food, so your guests can have fun preparing meals with their own recipes. Camp Can-I-Cook has a three-hour session for three or four days. Campers have the experience of new tastes, learn to prepare delicious refreshments, and write recipes for various cuisines. Here’s a recipe for mini quiches from one of our students:

Notice the use of imperative to give instructions!

So you see, even if you go to the Academy as a hobby or because you really love to cook, you can take advantage of everything you learned. Maybe in the future, you will get to open your own diner, a deli, a bistro, a hip coffeehouse, or a simple food stand. All you need is a visit to the grocery store for ingredients and a frying pan because you already have the skills and the know-how to prepare delicious dishes.

If you have any questions and want more information about their programs, contact the Young Chefs Academy by e-mail at classes@youngchefsacademy.com.

NEXT

Make a list of all the ingredients along with their quantities.

Number the steps you need to take from start to finish to prepare your dish. Remember to use IMPERATIVES!

Add some pictures of your dish to spice up your recipe.

Sign your name at the bottom, and review all the parts

NEXT

Writing process: first draftThe purpose of the first draft is to get your ideas on paper and to give shape to what you want to write about. It doesn't have to be perfect! You may need to write a number of first drafts to get to the final product.
