USO: Si usa quando si devono comparare 2 termini di paragone (persone, animali, cose, luoghi, ecc...) STRUTTURA: Con gli AGGETTIVI CORTI (monosillabici) regolari: 1° term. di paragone + verbo essere + AGGETTIVO CORTO + -ER + than + 2° term. di paragone. Sara is shorter than Cristina.

Comparativo di maggioranza

Con gli AGGETTIVI LUNGHI (bisillabici) regolari: 1° term. di paragone + verbo essere + MORE + AGGETTIVO LUNGO + than+ 2° term. di paragone. The English lesson is more interesting than the maths lesson. Gli aggettivi lunghi che terminano in -y e in -le, seguono la regola degli aggettivi corti. Your test is simpler than mine.

AGGETTIVI IRREGOLARI

Il comparativo degli agg. Irregolari va imparato a MEMORIA poichè la sua costruzione non segue alcuna regola.

I'm better than you at geography.

far (lontano)→further/farther (più lontano)

Tom's house is further/farther than mine.

My bike is worse than your bike.

much/a lot (molto) →more (più)

COMPARATIVI DI MINORANZA

1° termine di paragone + verbo essere + LESS+ AGGETTIVO+ THAN + 2° termine di paragone.

John is less tall than Mark. Your car is less expensive than mine.

COMPARATIVI DI UGUAGLIANZA

1° termine di paragone + verbo essere + AS + AGGETTIVO + AS + 2° termine di paragone.

She is as fast as me.French is as interesting as English.

Si usa il superlativo quando si deve confrontare un elemento rispetto ad un gruppo o al tutto.Con AGGETTIVI CORTI (monosillabici) regolari: 1° termine di paragone + verbo essere + THE + aggettivo corto + -EST (+oggetto) + IN/OF+ ... E.g. Marco is the shortest boy in the class.

Il 2° termine di paragone è introdotto da IN se si tratta di un luogo o di un gruppo di persone. E.g. Rome is the most important city IN Italy. Si usa OF nei casi in cui non di tratta di un luogo, nè di un gruppo di persone. E.g. That's the most interesting lesson OF the year. 25

AGGETTIVI LUNGHI (2 o più sillabe) regolari: 1° termine di paragone + verbo essere + THE MOST + aggettivo lungo (+ ogg.) + IN/OF +... E.g. She is the most quiet girl in the class.

AGGETTIVI IRREGOLARI

Il Superlativo degli aggettivi irregolari va imparato a memoria perchè la sua costruzione non segue alcuna regola.

E.g. My bike is THE BEST in the shop.
