The /z/ phoneme is normally spelled with the letter "z" as in the words: Citizen /ˈsɪtəzən/ Magazine /ˌmægəˈziːn/
The /s/ phoneme is usually spell with the letter "s" as in the words: So /soʊ/ Just /ˈdʒʌst/
But can also be spelled with the letters "se" and "x" For example: These /ðiz/ Exactly /ɪgˈzæktli/
