IT WAS HER PARACHUTING EXPERIENCE THAT LED TO HER BEING CHOSEN IN 1962, FOR TRAINING AS A COSMONAUT IN THE SOVIET PROGRAM.

In 1963 cosmonaut Valentina tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space aboard spaceshift vostok 6.
BORN She was born on March 6th, 1937. BIRTHPLACE In Bolshoye Maslennikovo, Western Russia. PROFESSION She was a cosmonaut in the USSR´s space program.
Cosmonaut career.
On June 16th , 1963, Vostok 6 was launched with her aboard.She orbited the earth 48 times in 70.8 hours, just under 3 days. When she returned from her voyage , she was given the title "Hero of the Soviet Union"
