1978
Offers to write lyrics for a song composed by his friend Wan Ibrahim. That track is none other than Alleycats' "Senandung Semalam".
1979
The Nanyang Academy of Fine Art graduate decides to switch careers, from painter to musician. He continues to write songs for Alleycats, and is behind their hit number "Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu" and "Hingga Akhir Nanti".
1979
Releases his first solo effort, 'Untuk Pencinta Seni', as Mohamed MN.
1981
Becomes the frontman of the folk-rock band Kembara. The group would release a total of seven successful albums before disbanding in 1985.
1984
Wins Best Song at the Malaysia Film Festival for "Sandarkan Kepada Kenangan" from the movie "Azura" starring Jamal Abdillah and Fauziah Ahmad Daud. He would continue to work with Jamal – a concert (Konsert Dua Lagenda in 2018) and a duet, "Ghazal Untuk Rabiah" (1997).
1985
Responsible for signing the group Search under the Polygram label. M. Nasir produced Search's first five albums. Among the tracks M. Nasir composed for the group are "Fenomena" and the mega hit, "Fantasia Bulan Madu".
1986
Composes the music for Sudirman's pop ballad, "Milik Siapakah Gadis Ini" for the late singer's "Kul it" album.

1990
Releases his second album as a solo artist, the aptly-titled S.O.L.O.
Sets up a recording company, Luncai Emas. He also signs Loloq as Luncai Emas' exclusive lyricist, resulting in some of label's most poetic songs; think "Nurnilam Sari" (originally recorded by Awie), as well as M. Nasir's "Langgam Pak Dogo" and "Mentera Semerah Padi"
1992
His third effort, "Saudagar Mimpi", features the ever-listenable tunes "Apokalips", "Gurindam Gunung Tahan" and "Inang Pulau Kencana".
1993
"Canggung Mendonan" is his fourth studio effort, and this album features a set of evergreen tracks including "Mentera Semerah Padi", "Tanya Sama Itu Hud Hud" and "Ada", as well as the poignant numbers, "Bonda" and "Sentuhan Listrikmu".
1994
Wins a total of four awards at Anugerah Juara Lagu for "Bonda" (Best Irama Malaysia Song) and "Tanya Sama Itu Hud Hud" (Best Pop Rock Song, Best Performance and Best Song of The Year).
1999
Releases "Srikandi Cintaku", a compilation of his compositions originally recorded by various artistes.
2001
Lends his voice for the character Putera Afdus, in the animated film "Putih", based on the folklore "Bawang Putih Bawang Merah". He also composed and sang the graceful song "Senandung Sayang", duetting with Aisyah.

Releases his sixth album, "Phoenix Bangkit", which was named the Best Album at the Anugerah Planet Muzik.

Stars in the film, “Puteri Gunung Ledang” as the legendary Malay warrior Hang Tuah, opposite Tiara Jacquelina.
2005
Serves as the honorary principal of reality tv talent show "Akademi Fantasia 3", the season that rocketed Mawi into a national phenomenon that year.

Releases "Sang Pencinta", his last full studio album to date.
2009
Holds two concerts to celebrate 30 years in the music industry - an intimate session at Istana Budaya with Konsert Alam Muzik M. Nasir and a show at Stadium Negara (Konsert Satu Wajah M. Nasir).
2011
The Sultan of Pahang awards him the Datuk title.
2014
Not letting his painting skills go to waste, M. Nasir, the visual artist, has his first solo exhibition in Tapak Galeri, Shah Alam, titled Tanda, featuring abstract paintings.
2016
Performs at a "University Tour" with his pal, Ramli Sarip.
2019
Celebrates 40 years in the music industry with Konsert M. Nasir Satu Hikayat – 40 Tahun Perjalanan. The rousing performance from the 62-year-old was held for two nights at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
2017
Performs during the opening ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games 2017 at National Stadium Bukit Jalil.
