Warming up questions : is your lifestyle healthy enough?

Have you been looking after yourself RECENTLY? -Have you spent enough time outdoors? -Have you had any junk food? -Have you been eating an apple a day? -Have you been doing any exercise in the last month? -Have you been laughing a lot recently? -Have you been thinking about getting married to live much longer? or buying a cute puppy in order to meet new people?

Present perfect continuous

  • Used when an action that started in the past is still happening now.
The dog has been barking all day
  • FORM: HAVE/HAS + BEEN+ verb in ing
She has been working since 9am
  • The interest is on the ACTION and HOW LONG it has been going on.
She has been painting the ceiling for 3 hours. (The activity has not finished yet.) Duration is important so FOR & SINCE are common. She has been painting since early this morning.

P.P simple or continuous?

  • P.P SIMPLE: a completed action. What is interesting is the result of the activity (the painted ceiling)
  • P.P continuous: The activity keeps going on until you speak or even after that, and what matters is the activity itself (painting the ceiling)
