The sort "Rugulopterix okamurae" afects to all the Strait of Gibraltar. Due to its fast reproduction, this invasive seaweed originally from Asia harms the fishing nets and specially it scalds marine forests.

Due to the presence of chemical plants in the area, besides the port, the sea water from Algeciras' bay has been affected by its inhabitants action. Many times industrial waste reaches the sea and spills from merchant ships too. This substances contaminate the sea really fast as well as the beaches nearby.
