Today in Spain only less than 2 out of every 100 people in the working population work in the primary sector.The main activities of the primary sector are agriculture, livestock farming and fishing.

1. Spain produces dry and irrigated crops typical of the Mediterranean region.

2. Livestock farming in Spain is characterized by the breeding of different types of livestock.

• Pig farming is the most common type of livestock farming in Spain, especially in Catalonia and Aragón.
• Sheep farming takes place in Extremadura, Castile and León and Castile-la Mancha.

Spain is one of the leading fishing countries in the world. There are two types of fishing:

• Onshore fishing is done close to the coast in small boats.
• Offshore fishing takes place in large, industrial boats that can remain in the oceans for long periods of time.
