WHERE DO THEY LIVE ?
The polar bear lives in the coldest areas of the world. Where temperatures are low, the water is cold, and they are able to move through the ice.In recent decades they have seen in places that are closer to human civilizations. There are many polar bears that live in zoos around the world.
CARACTERISTICS
- They are solitary animals except when they are ready to mate. - There are 19 different types of polar bears. - They spend most of their time in the water.
- It is one of the biggest predators.- Polar bears give birth on land. - They are classified as marine mammals.
WHY IS A ENDANGERED SPECIES?
Part of the problem is hunting, which has been practiced in polar bears for decades, now it is prohibited in some countries. Another great threat of the polar bear is global warming, especially when we talk about the accumulation of pollutants in the ice and in the atmosphere. These facts have reduced the habitable surface of the bears.
CAUSES OF ENDARGERMEND
Climate change is heating up the Arctic faster than anywhere else, and sea ice is shrinking 14 percent per decade. Even today, in the middle of the bitter cold Arctic winter, satellites show there is about 770,000 square miles less sea ice than the 1981 to 2010 median
HOW WE CAN HELP?
-Reduce global emissions of greenhouse effect, that they exist of the burning of fossil fuels that contributes to heat the climate. -Protect their habitat and minimize the risk of contamination by oil spills.
