Relative pronouns
We use them to clarify who or what we are talking about. They appear after nouns
- who/that: people
- which/that: animals, things
- whose: possession
- when: time
- where: place
- whom: people (I.Object)
Types of Relative clauses
Defining
They present essential information about the antecendent.
Example: The man who is sat next to you is old.
Non-defining
They present additional information about the antecedent.
Example: The city of Rochester, where the company Kodak is based, is in the state of New York.
