INTRODUCTION

San Martín of Frómista

The church of San Martín de Tours is a Catholic temple erected in the second half of the eleventh century in Frómista, in the province of Palencia (Castilla y León, Spain), and located on the Camino de Santiago. It belongs to the Romanesque style and is considered one of the main prototypes of European Romanesque.

CHARACTERISTICS

- The temple was built in the last two decades of the eleventh century. - It is in the town of Palencia, and located on the road to Santiago. - This small temple is a great example of Romanesque art for the perfection of its proportions, as well as the extraordinary richness of its decorative elements .- The walls are thick, otherwise the structure would not support the enormous weight of the stone with which it is built. For the same reason they are of low height and the bays are small.
