The best Croatian project for the youth with European dimension

TEACHERS' EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE 10 Ts (the debate-club teacher included) attended K1 Erasmus+ seminar Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset in Education in London, UK (1 - 5 July 2018): Ts in London The debate-club teacher attended eTwinning contact seminar Critical Thinking, Argumentation and Debate in eTwinning projects in Riga, Latvia (18 - 21 October 2018): Debate -club T in Riga The debate-club teacher (plus a colleague teaching English & German) joined two Massive Open Online Courses (Europeana in Your Classroom – Teaching 21st Century Skills & EVO Flipped Learning) in Jan-Feb 2019 on how to modernize her teaching process; she built her 1st learning scenario The Future of the EU (which will be adapted for Ss to use in their future debate sessions). In May 2019 the debate teacher joined an eTwinning Learning Lab Event Digital Augmented Stories. She learned how to integrate AR in her lessons and eTwinning projects, how to use collaborative tools to create digital and boost students' motivation. European seminar/eTwinning activities were disseminated & used within this project (to boost in-class, online & on spot local student communication & engagement.

STUDENTS' EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE A group of students joined an English (language & culture) summer course in Bideford & London, England (27 July - 6 Aug 2018). As a youth representative of the Europe House in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, Dajana Ivičić joined the Citizens' Panel in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria (28 - 31 Oct 2018) as a part of the Clicking with Voters EU project. The project's overall objective is to empower European citizenship and encourage youth involvement in the democratic life of Europe. Seven representatives of the Europe Direct Information Center Slavonski Brod (Dajana Ivičić included) attended international workshops and activities (3-8 December, Krakow, Poland) and tried to set up a 5-month campaign to encourage more active youth participation on the following EP elections as a part of the Clicking With Voters project. Maja Poljarević and Josipa Bitunjac joined the European Youth Summit/ project Just Arrange It in Holand (14-25 February 2019), where young people discussed European policies and ways to boost entrepreneurial thinking and employment ability of the youth. One (newly planted) tree in Ommen has their names! Leon Kiseljak joined a European student training Adversity can be formidable occasions, a path of resilience in Orvieto, Italy (16 - 26 May 2019). He will be back in Italy in Oct 2019 to become a youth (imigrant) trainer... Dajana, Maja & Josipa participated in two radio (phone-in) shows after their European mobilities. Their experiences were disseminated on the school's website, in eTwinning projects & the school (digital) paper (pages 20-22): Bulgaria Poland Holand in the school paper

ETWINNING PROJECTS & GROUPS In Sept 2018 the debate-club teacher started and registered eTwinning project Every Vote Counts with project partners from Germany, Belgium and Italy (with an intention to motivate students to participate in the EP elections in May 2019). In April 2019 the project won a Euro prize as one of the best European projects in 2018 & was nominated for the national quality label. The prize - certificates for eTwinners... and some nice class materials... plus a 100,00EUR voucher to spend on Amazon.com... Disseminating eTwinning project Every Vote Counts at school In Dec 2018 Ss and the T joined eTwinning project ValuEntrepreneurship for Our Community - the purpose is to discuss (social) entrepreneurs(hip) in local & (inter)national community and boost Ss' (proactive) entrepreneurial thinking. In March 2019 the project was chosen as the best national project in Turkey & will soon be nominated for the (Croatian & European) national quality label. Another eTwinning project - EU Debate was joined in March 2019 with the purpose to encourage European youth to discuss Euro policies and the future of the EU. The debate-club teacher also joined eTwinning groups Flipped Classroom and Entrepreneurship in Education where most of the EU4mE&U activities were disseminated. In May 2019 the debate teacher joined an eTwinning Learning Lab Event Digital Augmented Stories. On 9 May 2019 eTwinning Day was celebrated at school. English & German teachers organised an interactive presentation & a workshop for students where all eTwinning school projects were presented and more Ss invited to join the school eTwinning team.

LOCAL, REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL PANEL DISCUSSIONS ON THE (FUTURE OF) EU In Sept 2018 young debaters started cooperation with the Europe House in Slavonski Brod which organised panel discussions, meetings and learning experiences to encourage youths to take part in local, regional and (inter)national government entities. In Oct 2018 a group of European volunteers paid a visit to the school to promote the Europe House's project activities and encourage youth voluntarism and free foreign-language learning (organised by European volunteers). Young debaters discussed opportunities for the youth living in rural and urban areas of the City in the Technical School Slavonski Brod... and the future of Europe and Slavonia (an underdeveloped Croatian region where Slavonski Brod is situated) in the City Library. (They met Biljana Borzan, a Croatian European Parliament Member.) Eight debaters participated in two panel discussions in Osijek, Croatia (19 Nov 2018). The 1st was a part of the EPM Voting Campaign: Voting for the European Parliament Members – My Vote Also Counts! The 2nd was a sum-up of the 1st five years of Croatia being an EU member: My 1st 5 in EU – The Future I Want. Young eTwinners created a Tricision & started an online debate with European partners on Why Ss should vote &How to Motivate Ss to Vote: Tricisions on Why Vote The November panel discussion about the Future of Education (in Croatia and EU) in Slavonski Brod was also inspiring - the debaters had a lot to ask the guest panelists Ivana Maletić, a Croatian EPM; Vlado Prskalo, Croatian Education Minister's Adviser... Debates were held at school & in "Matija Mesić" Grammar School in the Anti-Addiction Month (Nov/Dec 2018). In the European Week (7 - 9 May 2019) young debaters participated in the International Youth Parliament Session & the Debate Tournament on the Future of Europe. More than 100 youths from 11 European countries joined the Parliament organized in the Youth Center by the Europe House in Slavonski Brod, Croatia. Affirmation & negation cases were built upon 5 topics: 1. Europe should move at five speeds; 2. EU-membership contributes to the wellbeing of me and my family; 3. Immigrants contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of European countries; 4. The EU has started to care about the environment at the right time; 5. MORE THAN COMPETING - #ThisTimeIamVoting Creative students (Hrvoje Birtić & Leon Ferić, followed by 25 other Ss) started the school year by creating a video to join a European contest & encourage Ss to VOTE on the upcoming European elections (in May 2019)... They won no prize BUT felt SUPERproud... 1st video ThisTimeIamVoting In Feb-March 2019 Hrvoje & Leon (followed by 6 other Ss) created another video... for another national contest... using the props originally created by former Ss. They sent the message: Every Vote Counts - mE & U together 4 better EU and won the prize - the video was chosen (by Europe Direct Croatia) among the best 10 in Croatia! Its author Hrvoje B. was awarded the certificate on 7 May 2019 (the 1st day of the International Youth Parliament in his hometown) and will travel to Bruxelles to visit EU institutions in the 2nd part of 2019!!! 2nd video ThisTimeIamVoting

EUROPEAN DAYS AT SCHOOL In Sept 2018 Ss celebrated the European Day of Languages. They helped their teacher organise an online Latvian (language and culture) course & workshop for students and thus prepare for her business trip (eTwinning contact seminar in Riga, Latvia). Maja Poljarević promoted her blogging activities and a group of students' English-summer-course-in-Devon experience: Only Maja blog Dajana Ivičić promoted her English-language-and-culture-learning London experience: Euro Day of Landuages & Dajana London In April the World Entrepreneurship Day was celebrated in eTwinning & at school. Ss and their teacher (eTwinner) worked on their eTwinning project... chatting with their European partners, working on their joint Tricision, presenting local/national entrepreneurs, new digital presentation tools & learning the importance of developing entrepreneurial mindset in education. Croatian student Nikolina Mrkonjić presented the work of Mate Rimac, a world-known Croatian entrepreneur... using a new digital tool... Genially Presentation Mate Rimac On 9 May 2019 eTwinning Day & Europe Day were celebrated at school. The Europe House representatives paid a visit to the school presenting #ThisTimeIamVoting & #Clicking WithVoters campaigns, teaching Ss about the EU institutions, particularly European Parliament & inviting them to vote on the upcoming European elections. Ms. Maja Mišić & Božica Sedlić promoted voluntary activism & active citizen participation among students, as well as the necessity to be mobile and learn foreign languages. An EU quiz was organised & the best Ss were rewarded. Later on an eTwinning workshop was organised for the Ss. English & German teachers eTwinners presented active school projects & invited Ss to join the school eTwinning team.

EUROPEAN WEEKS AT SCHOOL & IN LOCAL COMMUNITY In December 2018 the school became an official partner of the European Vocational (Skills) Week. Students helped their teachers decorate the school entrance hall and disseminate students' and teachers' proEuropean activities: - teachers' mobilities in the period July – December 2018 (London, UK; Riga, Latvia); - students' mobilities (to come) in the period July 2018 – February 2019 (Bideford & London, UK; Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria; Krakow, Poland; Ommen, Holand); - K1 Erasmus+ school projects; - eTwinning school projects; - debate-club activities... The activities were also disseminated on the school's website: Euro Vocational Week, in the national School Paper & on the national school website: Euro Vocational Week national level The European Week (7 - 9 May 2019) was celebrated at school & in the local community. The Europe House in Slavonski Brod, Croatia, organised a 3-day International Youth Parliament that brought together more than 100 youths from 11 European countries, young debaters from the Secondary School of Economics included. 12 young authors of the most creative videos in the national #EDIC Croatia #ThisTimeIamVoting video contest were awarded prizes and certificates. The youth set up & presented European Parliament election campaigns... and joined a debate tournament... discussing the future of Europe & offering possible solutions to environmental, educational, social and other problems in the EU.

PEER TEACHING/LEARNING ON EU On 24 Jan 2019 Dajana Ivičić and Leon Kiseljak held an interactive presentation for the students of our school (aged 17-18) EU4mE&U – mE&UinEU. The students did a Kahoot quiz with a fact file about EU (institutions). Having seen they do not know enough, they listened to their peers' lecture about the matter with great interest. Dajana and Leon stated benefits (for students and teachers) of Croatia being an EU member and disseminated proEuropean school activities in the period Sept - Dec 2018. They disseminated Clicking With Voters and eTwinning Every Vote Counts project sending a strong proEuropean message and encouraging students to take the stand and vote in the upcoming elections. In the period Feb – May 2019 individual students organised thematic workshops & presentations for their peers in English-, Croatian-, Geography-, History-, Ethics- and Physical Education classes (depending on their skills and interests). They took teachers' roles, used digital materials & tools (e.g. Kahoot, Europeana, Historiana, Glogsters, Infographics, and HyperDocs) to prepare their lessons/ presentations, share European cultural heritage and international understanding, encourage active European citizenship and teach their peers European values. On the Europe Day & eTwinning Day (9 May 2019) Ss/ eTwinners helped their teachers present eTwinning school projects & invite other Ss to join the school eTwinning team. Andrej Has presented the video about the school, logos & Vokis created for the eTwinning project ValuEntrepreneurship for Our Community. Later on he organised an eTwinning workshop for his peers teaching them how to create a Voki and add a digital/visual value to their eTwinning projects Nikolina Mrkonjić presented her Genially presentation about Mate Rimac & sent a message to her peers & teachers about the importance of developing entrepreneurial mindset in education.

GETTING READY FOR THE EUROPEAN ELECTIONS On April 17, 2019 the students of the Secondary School of Economics officially started School (European Parliament) Voting Campaign. Digital eTwinning (Every Vote Counts) project materials were printed to disseminate project work & European online collaboration. Ss decorated the school entry hall sending a proEuropean message: This Time I am Voting - Every Vote Counts! The campaign stopped for a week (due to a spring break) but continued in May 2019. New digital materials were created & posted in eTwinning project Every Vote Counts in the European Week (Every Vote Counts GIF, Glogsters, Inforgaphics ...). Common eTwinning materials were exhibited... Glogster Every Vote Counts During the European Week young debaters worked on eTwinning EU Debate project, used their teacher's learning scenario & eTwinning materials to learn about the EU & prepare for the Debate Tournament during the International Youth Parliament... Etwinning & Europe Day were celebrated at school. European Week at school On 10 May 2019 Ss & teachers joined the EP Ambassador School Programme's Europe Day celebration... and the school's activities in the European Week were promoted on its Facebook page EPAS fb On 15 May 2019 at 9pm CET representatives from different political parties took part in a debate at the European Parliament... tackling important issues such as climate change, tax unfairness, social & gender inaquality & injustice, strong & united Europe "standing firmly against Trump & Putin"... Eurovision EU Debate was broadcast all over the EU. Young debaters & their teacher followed the debate on Facebook... They used the opportunity to shape their opinion on the future that they want... learning an important message: THE POWER COMES FROM YOU! GO OUT & VOTE IN THESE ELECTIONS! NEVER LET YOURSELF BECOME INDIFFERENT! Young debaters sent a final message to their peers... having watched two CDs Discover the EU with EuroParlTV about Gallileo, Cloning etc..., having decorated the school panel & sharing info on why vote... Hrvoje Birtić created a video disseminating proEuropean activities within the EU4mE&U project during the school election campaign (getting ready for the European Youth Charlemagne Prize 2019 in Aachen, Germany : Video EU4mE&U for Charlemagne Competition Aachen Hopefully, by 26th May 2019, a large number of students (aged 18) will have been aware of a shared sense of European identity and opt to fulfill their European duty and vote for the European Parliament representatives in the upcoming elections.

PROEUROPEAN CROATIAN YOUTH ... young debaters from the City/Homeland of Kravata ..., the biggest city on the EU border... who have just started writing the Book of Success: One can not teach/learn how to be(come) a European citizen. One has to live it!
