I lost it.

Welcome! I created this resource to make your life easier! At the heart of this resource, I am going to show you how to make the most out of the Canvas Gradebook and Assignments/Assignment Groups. Additionally, I want to help you solve a common and easily avoidable issue: Students losing work, not know what is supposed to be done, etc. Canvas provides a wonderful way to support all kids and eliminate this issue!

My child was absent, what do they need to do?

Think about when students are absent. Wouldn’t it just be easier to consistently direct them to their course page? If you have a method and consistent template for posting information about assignments, it erases those questions. I am NOT saying everything your kids do should be online. I am saying put the information for everything online.

We have moved to Canvas so that it can be a one stop shop, but we still aren’t using it that way just yet. When teachers post some items on Canvas and not others, it creates questions about where an assignment is. Students get confused, parents get confused, and there is a lot of:

Assignment Folder

The assignment page is really for you. Ideally, you will create assignments within this folder (all assignments will end up here either way) and then LINK to the assignments throughout your course on pages and/or within modules that makes sense for your course.

Assignments& Assignment Groups

On the course menu, as the teacher, you will see the Assignments button. This button will lead you to basically a folder of all assignments within the course. (assignments are all quizzes, surveys, and items just called assignments). You can choose whether or not your students see the assignments button on their end. I advise that you disable it for students, otherwise, they will just get a giant list of assignments.

Whether you plan to post all assignment information on Canvas or just the items you'd like students to compelte online, importing grades from Canvas is SUPER helpful! The process to export and import is not very time consuming and once you get the hang of it, I believe that it will make your life and your transition to Canvas easier!

TIP!Grade in Canvas throughout the week and only upload to HAC once a week. Remind students that Canvas grades are "unnoffical" while grades in HAC are "Official".
