Hi guys, I didn't understand what the "past continuous" was about. Could you explain it to me, please?

Yes, of course. He said it is used for interrupted and simultaneous actions, story backgrounds, some past habits and when emphasizing the length of the action. It communicates an unfinished or incomplete action in the past.

Introduction

Uses

Use 1. Interrupted Actions.

Example

An action in the past which overlaps another action or a time.

Use 2. Simultaneous Actions.

An action in the past is happening at the same time as another action in the past.

Example

Use 3. Story Background.

We can use it as well for the background of a story. (We often use the past simple for the actions.)

Use 4. Some Past Habits.

Temporary habits or habits that happen more often than we expect in the past. We often use 'always', 'constantly' or 'forever' here.

Use 5. Emphasis on Length of Action.

To emphasise that something lasted for a while. We usually use it with time expressions like 'all day' or 'all evening' or 'for hours'.
