As you may know by now EIRE is as well a Republic. But in this case EIRE is the name of the main character in the book. A thirteen-year-old girl. In the book you can see the harp and the shramrock national symbols. English is the spoken language in Ireland.

I am sure some of you write a diary. Most girls do. The book we are about to read has been written by a teacher writer of IES Unamuno: "Eireren egunerokoa". It has been written in basque.

I'm sure you'll like it. If you can, go and visit this beautiful country Ireland. Its culture, landscape and people deserve it.

The book tells us the story of Eire in Ireland during a summer to learn English sent by her parents against her will. Her favourite hobby is music and she falls in love and is betrayed by her best friend.
