Orphaned and lonely except for an uncle, Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield) lives between the walls of a train station in the Paris of the thirties. Hugo's job is to oil and maintain the station's clocks, but his most important task is to protect an automaton and a notebook left by his deceased father (Jude Law). Accompanied by the goddaughter (Chloë Grace Moretz) of a toy salesman (Ben Kingsley), Hugo decides to solve the mystery of the automaton and find a home.
