Virtual Environment as an Intervention Medium for Social Anxiety

How emotions facilitate athlete's performance during crunch time is mediated by positive appraisal of emotions. Negative appraisal, on the other hand, leads to choking

There is one sensory experience missing in online shopping: tactile. And it hinders user's trust to make a purchase. People need something more tangible than descriptive text. A video of someone touching and using the product can fill in that need.

Undergraduate Thesis

Using VR as an embodied medicine and principles of computational neuroscience, a virtual environment where people with social anxiety can feel save as they face their feared object in exposure therapy is designed.

Virtual Environment as an Intervention Medium for Social Anxiety

ABSTRACTThe use of virtual environment (VE) in virtual reality (VR) as a medium for intervention for social anxiety has advantage over in vivo exposure therapy because it is considered practical, more efficient, easier to control, more available, more acceptable, and cost-effective. Before it can be used as a medium for intervention, VE must meet certain principles and standards. This research aimed to design a VE that met those principles and standards for a medium for intervention for social anxiety. The development of the VE is divided into planning stage, analysis stage, design stage, and heuristic evaluation. Free-energy principle and embodied cognition were used as a framework to design and analyse the VE, and intervention design method was used to design the VE with 360° video technology. The scenario in the VE was a situation where user was asked to give a presentation in front of an audience of six. There were three levels created: positive audience, neutral audience, and negative audience. Four experts in psychology and technology evaluated the usability and interaction within the VE for therapeutic purposes using a standard heuristic evaluation rubric. Result showed that the VE designed in this research had met the principles and standards to be acceptable and feasible as a medium for intervention for social anxiety. The next step is a real subject testing to get an evidence-based intervention method that is ready to be applied.

Coping Strategies among College Students

ABSTRACTStress is a part of college students’ lives. If students do not cope well with stress, there would be higher risks of problems, ranging from academic performance to a health problem. How individuals cope with stress is called coping strategies. This research aimed to find out what kind of coping strategies used by students of Universitas Padjadjaran. Data consist of 339 students selected through convenient sampling was collected through online forms. Coping strategies were measured using the COPE Inventory. The most used coping strategy among students is turning to religion, which was followed by positive reinterpretation and growth. Maladaptive coping strategies, such as focusing on and venting of emotion and mental disengagement, were still commonly used. This called for a solution to reduce the use of such strategies. Next, studies can further investigate the effectiveness of coping strategies by looking at the stress level experienced and its link to both dispositional and situational coping strategies.

User Experience on Fashion and Apparel Online Stores

French

RESULTS

METHODS

BACKGROUND

The pandemic has made online store more significant than ever. The companies want to know the experience the users have with their official online stores and how they can improve it so more users would make purchase from their online stores.

The websites are too slow. The payment method is frustrating. And the experience itself lacks one sensory element: tactile. This significant difference between online store and offline store makes users reluctant to make purchase. They need something tangible to grasp the product and be sure of their choices. And the descriptive text provided by the websites won't cut it. Videos of someone interacting with the product might trigger mirror neurons and provide some tangible sense.

Survey collecting quantitative and qualitative data are combined with website analytics.

Catching Airplane Flyers

How to make your organization stand out among many other organizations in a display while keeping a minimum budget?

French

I designed flyers with persuasive words that touched the senses in a form of paper airplanes that were then flown to the audience. It was cost-effective, it engaged the audience, and inspired them to join us. Then we discovered a serendipity, that folding the paper airplanes also functioned as a fun bonding activity.
