Question 4 How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
SOFTWARES USED FOR EACH STAGE
I have categorise the technologies used within my work in four stages: Research, Planning, Construction and Evaluation for ease of access. Generally, I have used a wider variety of technologies for the evaluation element of this project than any others; the Construction stage was the least diverse.
WHY IS TECHNOLOGY IMPORTANT?
I found it critical to use a range of media technologies throughout this process, from the research to the evaluation stage, to ensure that my work was original and modern, as well as developing a skillset by using contrasting softwares that each bring different creative potentials. Modern day society allows us to be 'prosumers', as coined by Alvin Toffler (1980) and championed by David Gauntlett in his theories on Web 2.0. Gauntlett suggests that, as a result of Web 2.0, we become prosumers and can create our own identities while also having the possibility of influencing others' too, making reference to services such as YouTube. In this instance, I would agree that I am a prosumer as I have been equipped with software that has allowed me to consume products within my research while then going on to create my own work, thus producing it. However, a lot of software that can help you become a producer (and subsequent prosumer) comes at a cost that someone of my age demographic wouldn't be able to readily purchase.
