SOCIAL SCIENCE: MIXTURES
Questions!
A mixture happens when we put two or more substances together. For example, we can mix yoghurt with honey. There are two types of mixtures: heterogeneous mixtures and homogeneous mixtures .
- Mixtures-
A pure substance consists of only one component. For example silver, salt and wood are pure substances.
What is a pure substance? What is a mixture? How many types of mixtures are there?
- Pure substances-
SUBSTANCES
In a homogeneous mixture we put two or more substances together but we can´t see each of them separately. The whole mixture looks the same.
HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURES
In a heterogeneous mixture we put two or more substances together but we can see them separately. The whole mixture looks different.
HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURE
((Sugar, salt, sand, coffe...)
1. Mix each substance with some water in the glasses.2. Stir well using the spoon. 3. Put some mixture into the sieve to separate. Which ones worked? 4. Leave the mixture for a few days by the window. Which one worked?
