His 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol, with the character of Mr Scrooge, remains popular and continues to inspire adaptations in every artistic genre. Oliver Twist and Great Expectations are also frequently adapted.

Charles John Huffam Dickens was born the 7th, February 1812 in Landport, Hampshire, England. He left school to work in a factory when his father was incarcerated in a debtors' prison.

On 8 June 1870, Dickens suffered another stroke at his home after a full day's work on Edwin Drood. He never regained consciousness, and the next day he died at Gad's Hill Place.

Despite his lack of formal education, he edited a weekly journal for 20 years, wrote 15 novels, five novellas, hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles....

Although he continued to write successfully, Peter Pan overshadowed his other work. Barrie died of pneumonia on 19 June 1937 and was buried at Kirriemuir next to his parents and two of his siblings. His birthplace at 4 Brechin Road is maintained as a museum by the National Trust for Scotland.

Roald Dahl was born the 13th September 1916 in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales, UK. He was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot. His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide.

Roald Dahl died on 23 November 1990, at the age of 74 of a rare cancer of the blood, myelodysplastic syndrome, in Oxford and was buried in the cemetery at St Peter and St Paul's Church in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, England.

He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, in which he became a flying ace and intelligence officer, rising to the rank of acting wing commander. He has been referred to as "one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century".

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was born the 27th. January 1832 in Daresbury, Cheshire, EnglandHe was better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll. He was an English writer, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon, and photographer.

He died of pneumonia following influenza on 14 January 1898 at his sisters' home, "The Chestnuts", in Guildford. He was two weeks away from turning 66 years old. He is buried in Guildford at the Mount Cemetery.

His most famous writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, which includes the poem "Jabberwocky", and the poem The Hunting of the Snark – all examples of the genre of literary nonsense.
