Air Pollution

Air pollution occurs when harmful substances including particulates and biological molecules are introduced into Earth's atmosphere.

Air Pollution

It may cause:

  • Allergies, diseases or death of humans.
  • Harm to other living organisms such as animals and food crops.
  • Damage the natural or built environment.

Causes of the problem

  • Carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, is the main pollutant that is warming Earth.
  • Cars, planes and power plants.
  • Sulfur dioxide: smog.

EFFECTS

  • Acid rain
  • Global Warming
  • Ground-level ozone: Chemical reactions involving air pollutants create a poisonous gas ozone (O3).

The UN stated that, "Air pollutants such as sulphates, nitrates and black carbon penetrate deep into the lungs and into the cardiovascular system, posing the greatest risks to human health".

Posible Solutions

  • Driving and flying less
  • Recycling
  • Measures are taken by governments:
  • Limit emission of carbon dioxide.

The WHO told that, "everyone has to understand the concept of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle". Also it said that, one of the solutions could be the use of old jars to store cereals or pulses.
