Internet domain names
The letters after www in web adresses indicate the domain name which is the name of the server followed by org, es, com... Examples: com ___> Commercial organisation edu ___> Educational Institution gov ___> Government entity int ___> International Organisation net ___> Organisation org ___> Non-profit organisation
INTERNET SERVICES
The Internet offers a lot of services to its users. WEB PAGES (hypertext) These are text documents that structured in frames. They include images and multimedia elements. They have links or hyperlinks (.htm, .html) Web browsers: (Google chrome, safari,etc)
BLOGS AND WIKIS
Blogs They are updated regualarly and contains texts and articles (blog entries) by one or various writers. Can contain images and multimedia elements. Wikis Are web pages that can be modified by different users from their browser. The most famous is Wikipedia.
Electronic mail or email
This service lets youy send and recieve messages that can be text with multimedia elements. It is very similar to the postal service and there are a lot of free apps for receiving mail on mobile devices.
Virtual Communities: Social networks
Is a group of people who communicate on the Internet in virtual space. Social Networks are one kind of virtual community. Horizontal social networks: These are made up of communities with very different interests who use the network for a wide range of themes. Vertical social networks: These are made up of communities with similar interests.
Chats and Videoconferences
Chats ara text conversations beetween users. If several people join in the conversation, this is known as a videoconference.
Cloud computing
File storage: Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive Information processing: Word processors, presentations and drawing Cloud programs: Flickr Advantages: -You can access your files from anywhere with a laptop -You can share the files easily with other people
