CIPACaused by gene error where the nerve system doesn't develop. This disease makes you unable to feel pain or any temperature. The symptoms can be seen as an infant, they are usually several cuts or things that would be painful that the infant doesn’t show any realization that the wound is there. Most people with this disease can get help if the symptoms are noticed.

The only way you can tell if a child has this disease is how they react to pain or if they aren’t as strong as other babies are.

The disease can be deadly, depending on the child. What makes the disease deadly is that people with this disease will purposely start to hurt themselves, like biting their lips or fingers until they bleed. If child is hurting themself over and over again it can lead to bone infections, or Charcot joints. Charcot joints is when the bone and tissue around it starts to go bad. People with CIPA can’t control their body temperature like people without this disease do, they will get heat induced seizures a lot. Half the people who have CIPA have little control over their emotions and usually have weak muscle tone when they are young, as they age they will act more like someone without CIPA.

Its recommended to get psychological help for your child, like counselling. Ways you can keep the child from hurting themself is to pull out their teeth, smooth their teeth down, or use a mouth guard. A child with this disease will need a lot of supervision and constant care.
