CONDITIONAL
FUTURE
DREAM
WOULD
To learn how to express an unreal situation in the future, using the second conditional. To use the correct structure in order to describe this types of situations.
The second conditional uses the past simple after if, then would and infinitive: IF + PAST SIMPLE + WOULD + INFINITIVE
USES:1. To talk about things in the future that are probably not going to be true. Maybe I'm imagining some dream. Ex: If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house. ( I probably won't win the lottery)
2. We can use it to talk about something in the present which is impossible because it's not true.Ex: If I were you, I wouldn't go out with that man.
If I were ...Note that with the verb To Be we use IF + I / HE / SHE / IT + WEREThe reason we use WERE instead of WAS is because the sentence is in the Subjunctive mood.-If I were not in debt, I would quit my job.-If he were taller, he'd be accepted into the team.
If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world= It is unlikely that I will win the lottery, but I'm going to hypothetically imagine that I did win. In that situation I would travel around the world. So in order for me to travel around the world, I would need the first clause (the condition or situation) to happen, that is, for me to win the lottery first.- If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world. (Though I am unlikely to win the lottery)- If I knew his name, I would tell you.Notice how we use a comma after the past tense clause.
Look at these example sentences:
- Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing eBeing Around by the Lemonheads (Second Conditional)Lemonheads Being Around- Second ConditionalsWithout matching the lines, read through the song quickly. Do you think the song is a love song?If I was in the fridge, would you mow your lawn?If I was the grass, would you open the door?If I was your body, Would you eat it?If I was a booger, would you blow your nose?Would yoown on your kneesAnd scrub me

If I were a boy even just for a day
I’d roll outta bed in the morning and throw on what I wanted then go
Drink beer with the guys and chase after girls
I’d kick it with who I wanted
and I’d never get confronted for it cause they’d stick up for me
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
how it feels to love a girl.
